वेगळेपणा म्हणजे दोष नव्हे

आम्ही काल काही लोकांशी भेटलो, जे मोठ्या प्रमाणाने वस्तूंचे उत्पादन करतात. त्यांनी ग्रामींनो चे उत्पादन बघून सांगितले कि आमच्या वस्तू ते घेऊ शकणार नाहीत, कारण त्या सममितीय आणि परिपूर्ण नाहीत. त्यांनी आम्हाला त्यांचे सगळे उत्पादन दाखवले. त्यांचे सगळे उत्पादन एकसारखे आणि सामामीत आहे.

आम्ही ज्या वस्तू बनवतो त्या अद्वितीय आहेत. त्या वस्तू परिपूर्ण आणि सममित दिसण्याचा प्रयत्न करत नाहीत. अपूर्णता आणि असममितता हा निसर्गाचा एक भाग आहे आणि आम्ही तो साजरा करतो. अपूर्णता किंवा असममितता म्हणजे कमीपणा नव्हे. निसर्ग सुंदर दिसतो कारण कोणतीही दोन झाडे, पशु, पक्षी सारख्या नसतात. कोणत्याही दोन व्यक्ती सारख्या नसतात. निसर्गाने आपल्याला दिलेला आकार, माप आणि रंग हे आपल्याला अद्वितीय बनवते. आम्ही ज्या वस्तू बनवतो, त्या निसर्ग साजरा करतात. सगळ्या वस्तू एकसमान आणि परिपूर्ण केल्याने त्यांचे व्यक्तिमत्व विरघळून जाईल.

पण हेही खरं आहे कि बहुतेक लोकांना परिपूर्ण आणि एक सामान वस्तू बघून सवय झालेली आहे. त्यांना वाटते कि सममिती आणि एकरूपता म्हणजेच गुणवत्ता आहे. आम्हाला हे सिद्ध करायचे आहे कि वेगळेपणा म्हणजे दोष नव्हे. पण हे करणे सोपे नसेल. प्रत्येकजण या उपक्रमात सहमत होणार नाही. तर आम्हाला ठरवायचे आहे कि आम्ही बाकी सगळी जण वागतात तसेच वागू का आम्ही आमचे व्यक्तिमत्व बाळगून ठेवू. जर आम्ही वेगळेपणा साजरा करत असलो तर आमचे ग्राहक देखील मर्यादित असतील. पण आम्हाला वाटते कि आम्ही मोठ्या प्रमाणाने उत्पादन करण्या ऐवजी छोट्या प्रमाणावर, पण अद्वितीय वस्तू बनवणे हेच बरे.

English Translation:

We met some people yesterday, who produce products in large quantities and have access to a large number of customers. They saw some of the samples of Graminno products, and said that these products were imperfect and not uniform, and hence they would not be able to help sell them. They showed us their products that were mass manufactured and uniform.

Graminno products are unique. These products do not try to be perfect and symmetrical. Asymmetry and variation is a part of nature and we celebrate it. Asymmetry and variation do not make them any less valuable and do not make them lower in quality or utility. Nature looks beautiful because no two trees, animals or birds are similar. Every individual is different. The shape, size and color that nature gives us is what makes us unique. The products we make celebrate nature. Making every product identical will dissolve their uniqueness.

But it is also true, that most people are used to seeing things that are perfect and similar. They assume that perfection and similarity defines quality. We would like to prove that being different is not a fault. But we accept that this will keep our market restricted. We think it is better to create unique products at a smaller scale than create mass manufactured products that all look the same. We believe that sustainability improves a lot with human scale operations in a rural context.
